Challenges & Solutions:
Home Textile Factory Workers in Pakistan
White paper
The global demand for home textiles has surged in recent years and propelled Pakistan
into the world’s top three exporters, following China and India. The industry is
a cornerstone of Pakistan’s economy, renowned for its high-quality cotton products
like bed linens and towels. But despite its importance for the economy, home textile
factory workers face low wages, job insecurity, and a pervasive fear of organising. These
conditions mirror the challenges faced by workers in the fashion industry, but have, in
general, been receiving less attention from policymakers and media.
