What Next Democracy in Pakistan: Challenges and Way Forward
Currently Awaz CDS-Pakistan is implementing a short term project with support from Asian Democracy Network (AND). This is an advocacy project through which AwazCDS-Pakistan is to engaging with key and like-minded CSOs and to initiate a dialogue on consolidation of democracy in Pakistan. With objectives to Increase awareness among CSOs and democracy advocates on national consolidation of democracy, review and assess the progress on Charter of Democracy, prepare and propagate CSOs Charter on Democratic Consolidation in Pakistan and organize national forum on Democratic Consolidation in Pakistan.
People’s Assemblies and Global Week of Action Act4SDGs 2022
Pakistan is passing through worst times of its history when the country at the verge of default, inflation is at the highest level as 42%, poverty and inequality has increased, more than 40% people especially women, PLWDs and minorities do not have access to vaccine. 90% of the women agriculture workers are not formally recognized as labour and therefore not eligible for minimum wages, employees old age benefits and other social protection programs including social security or workers’ welfare fund. Awaz is running advocacy campaigns for realization of human rights commitments by the government of Pakistan through organizing assemblies at provincial, regional and national levels. Where people are putting up their demands for social and economic development.
Developing People’s Scorecard
Spotlight Report is an alternative and civil society led report on Sustainable Development Goals, the idea was part of regular interventions of Pakistan Development Alliance around national, regional and global advocacy opportunities including High Level Political Forum (HLPF). Several countries including Pakistan followed their lead and developed parallel reports to official Voluntary National Review (VNR) through a participative process by collaborating with Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and Non- Governmental Organizations (NGOs).
The People Scorecard (PSC) is a tool for independent assessment of Governments’ progress and performance towards achievement of their socio- economic and political commitments through inclusion of people’s voices. The PSC gathers information from the people and depicting real, on ground situation with regard to performance and progress of Pakistan on SDGs. PSC results are inculcated in the CSOs led spotlight report presented at the United Nation’s High Level Political Forum (HLPF) in parallel to official VNRs by the Governments in July 2022.
Voluntary Local Review (VLR) of SDGs in Pakistan: Situational Analysis of Localization of SDGs at District Level
The Voluntary Local Review (VLR) is an analysis of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for a specific local context. It is a very important monitoring tool for their implementation at city or regional level. The process of SDGs localization that starts with the Voluntary Local Review allows local authorities to identify their own priorities and territorial specificities. This project will produce a VLR report which will present findings and analysis of survey conducted for voluntary review pf localization of SDGs in 13 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Islamabad (ICT), Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJ&K) and Gilgit Baltistan (GB). Two districts from each region were selected, one urban and one rural. Peshawar and Dera Ismail Khan (DIK) from KP, Lahore and Rajanpur from Punjab, Quetta and Khuzdar from Balochistan, Karachi East and Tharparkar from Sindh, Muzaffarabad and Bagh from AJ&K and Astore and Gilgit from GB.
